Mary Kom: The Epitome of Women Empowerment

She remembered who she was and changed the game. In life your background holds no power over you. If you possess passion and also the potential to make a mark on the lives of others, then you may definitely find ways to realize what you strive for. Mary Kom not only proves that, but she has exceeded and excelled every expectation people had from her. Born within the small village of Kangathei, Manipur, her parents worked as labourers on a farm. Start with a healthy breakfast, because health comes first!

One of the after-effects of contemporary lifestyle is the sparsity of time. It is not the easiest when it comes to cooking healthy but fast for my family. Especially, my kids, they have a very different palate compared to me and my husband. I remember being told by one of my neighbours, the kind of innovations she had to come up with every day in her kitchen to still the tantrums of her kids. One big challenge that I face every day is giving lunch to my kids for school. I think it’s just natural as a mother to be protective and concerned about what my family eats. A Spicy Adventure

My husband is a big foodie and sometimes, just for the sake of being adventurous, he tries food that normally comes with warnings. For instance, during our travel fiesta in Thailand, he was eating deep-fried tarantulas. I remember him crunching the eight legs away like its cucumber and not a tarantula. Out of the list of elaborate dishes, we decided to try our luck on Saffron and Raisin Couscous with Fresh Mint while my husband ordered couscous with Harissa Sauce. It was interesting to try both variations of the same dish. After the food arrived, we...

My uncle and aunt stopped by a Chinese restaurant in Bombay, where they lived. This place had a reputation for avant-garde dishes. After going through the list of jaw-dropping dishes they decided to order Ma Po Tofu and Kung Pao Chicken. Both historically important dishes for the Chinese. After placing their order they patiently waited to be served. They waited and waited. And then waited some more. Finally, my aunt remarked, “I wonder what’s taking so long for them,” and my uncle sighed. Before my uncle...

The Keratinous Pizza

While I was still studying in college my first job was at a pizza joint. One of my co-workers was called Amit. An interesting person with an unusual personality. Let us say it's difficult not to notice him. He was bit hirsute and sweaty, with an unpleasant odour that accompanied him all around. I do not know if it was only my perception or the general in the kitchen that he didn't shower enough -- basically, he looked like a too-warm grizzly bear. So it happened on one warm and sunny day when no one was expecting any anomaly. Another person was stirring the pizza sauce for the infamous Pizza Al Quattro Formaggi in a huge pot over the...
